“God showed up, and He showed off!” That was a quote from one of the 58 women who attended the Kamloops Alliance Church Women’s retreat recently held at Eagle Bay Camp May 5th and 6th, 2018.
The Women’s Ministry team at KAC is newly formed, meeting for the first time last fall. We knew we wanted to get a Spring Retreat in motion as a focal point for our women before the busy summer season arrived. Our team leader, Jocelyn Sweetnam, had the great idea to move the IF conference (held previously as a weekend seminar in our church) to a two day retreat format. Eagle Bay Camp was available and the planning began.
Over the course of the retreat, we heard from great speakers such as Jo Saxton, Bianca Altoft, Jennie Allen and Christine Caine, to name a few. The overall theme for this weekend was discipleship. The key verse was 2 Timothy 1:6,7. We were encouraged to look to those younger than us; to nurture and support the light we see in them. Annie Downs helped us to simplify discipleship, “Meet those you are discipling right where they are, and realize that they only want to know what we know – stop making discipleship complicated!” Christine Caine reminded each of us that we have been given the baton of faith to pass on to others – there is no Plan B!
The music and technical team, (Teri Fichtner, Emily Vasquez, and Jen Brown) brought great times of worship and praise and gave us much opportunity to set our hearts and minds on Christ through music.
Decor was perfect! Our hospitality and decor leader, Aimee Pastoor, did a wonderful job. At the front of the meeting room we had our theme verse on a large banner beautifully scripted in calligraphy by Colleen Pastoor.
For some weeks before, and during the two days of retreat, we were soaked in prayer thanks to a wonderful team of intercessors (Beth Strachan, Liz Jones, Diane Down and Robyn Friberg). So amazing to see God’s power work through the prayers of His people – God is faithful!!
Of course, the serene setting on the shores of Shuswap Lake only added to the richness of this retreat. Women walked along the sun-soaked beach, savouring the beauty of the water and surrounding hills, plus there was some time on Saturday afternoon for kayaking and hiking. To sum up this weekend – our team went in prayerfully expecting God to do amazing things and He not only showed up but He exceeded our expectations!
