Reflections of Joy: Aroma of Praise

As the priest lights the incense, the smoke goes up, burning until there is nothing left… the smoke going up as praise rising to the Lord. As my life is being consumed by time, each day is one day less that I have to spend here; each day is being burned up like the incense. And, what happens to the fragrance? Is it a sweet aroma to those who are a part of my life? Does the smoke go straight up to God as giving glory to the One who gives me life? Or do I allow the winds of adversity to blow the smoke around and rob me of giving praise and thanks to the Lord?
I cannot retrieve what has already been burned, so I must look ahead. I must remember what the Lord requires of me as in Micah 6:7, “He has shown you, O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly; to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
My life is burning up day by day and I do not know the end of it here on earth, but I know that I desire for each day to count as glory unto God. So I pray, “Lord, use my life for Your purposes and help me to grasp Your greatness, which will give me perspective and humility. May the fragrance of my offering be pleasing to You and be a blessing to all those who are in my world. Amen”
