Reflections of Joy: Sacrifice of Thanksgiving

Psalm 116:17 “I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.”

It’s easy to give thanks for the beautiful things and it’s not hard to praise Him when everything is going great. But when I face the tough stuff, does worship come easy?

I know and understand that God is good and that life here will not always be a piece of cake. I know that He never changes and that His love is constant even in the face of death. But I must admit that sometimes my emotions and my heart ache for the ease of laughter and good times. Instead I am called to give a sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.

Psalm 116:17 goes on to say “I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of His people.”

God does not overlook this sacrifice of thanksgiving. He is quite aware of how hard this is. And I believe He is blessed when I give Him glory even in the difficult times.

So my exultation is “Thank You Oh Lord for Your kind mercy, for Your love for me, for Your comfort in sadness, for Your healing in sickness, for Your consolation in loss. I will trust Your wisdom and seek Your peace, for Your love endures forever."
