Reflections of Joy: Contentment

The code to contentment is heartfelt thanks – and the secret to heartfelt thanks is in opening the eyes to the ordinary and seeing the extraordinary hidden treasures there.
When I open my eyes each morning, how do I begin to process those early moments? Do I wish to sleep longer and lazily stay in a slumber? Do I grumble in my soul because of the tasks set before me that day? Or do I consider His love and Him waiting to spend time with me? Do I remember that He delights in me – His “love creation” - that He rejoices over me with singing?
My first moments of each day are crucial to what my thoughts and attitudes will be throughout my day. To wake with anticipation of all the blessings and favour that He longs to give, is key. Even in the tough stuff of earth living, I can see His hand of grace and mercy. He, who could have left me stuck in my inability to keep the law, has extended freedom through Jesus – the perfect lamb – sacrificed to pay the price for my sin.
This is where I must begin to open my eyes to see the good, to give thanks from this point on. If this is all I have, I have all I need: the heavenly Father, the sacrificial Lamb, and the indwelling Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord, Oh my soul.
