Reflections of Joy: Thanks-Serving

When I serve others, I sometimes find myself looking for their response and their appreciation. But when I serve with the attitude of serving the Lord, I find satisfaction in the giving and not the receiving. After all, He has already served me and given me everything I need for life and godliness. My actions are “the response” and then there is no seeking a response from others.

The act of serving can be truly an act of worship when my motives are right. I can give freely and joyfully with no expectations.

This takes abiding in the love of God. John records the words of Jesus “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

The deepest satisfaction does not come from thanks or recognition from people but rather from the abiding presence of the Lord in my life, from serving Him with a heart of thanksgiving and praise. After all, He gave it all (everything) for His children.

When I take my focus off of His great love and start seeking my own rewards, I am quickly disappointed. But, when I daily, commit myself to loving Him, and through that love extend grace, mercy and kindness to others, I experience the fullness of joy.

“In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11(b)
