Reflections of Joy: The Best Choice

When I fall into the pit of grumbling and complaining – what do I find there? Do I find peace and joy? Do I find satisfaction and rest for my soul? Or do I find the muddy quick sand of anger, hatred, despair and further griping? My recollection of times past tells me that the latter option is the most likely.
Why then would I choose to walk down the road filled with ditches, pits and quick sand? My only answer is that complaining feeds my prideful heart - the attitude of “I deserve better” or “I deserve more” when the reality of life is that none of us really deserves anything. I have been raised in a privileged North American society filled with rights and options. But most of the population in this world can only dream of these luxuries.
So when little annoyances or obstacles face me, my best response is to see them in a greater perspective, not giving in to the lower road of complaining, resentment and even bitterness. James, the brother of Jesus, tells us to “count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work that you may be perfect and complete lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4
This is a perspective and choice that will lead me to the high road of trust, peace and joy. The best choice!
