Reflections of Joy: Remembrance

There are so many catchy cliché’s out there to inspire us to enjoy the moments such as “…today is a gift, that’s why they call it the present.” Although these quips are helpful reminders for us to have perspective on life and living, do they bring us to the place of remembrance?

I so often get caught in my own sphere of my day to day life and look inward. Today, and this week, I want to look beyond myself, look back, look overseas, and remember. I will remember those who have given up their gifts of today, those who have died and those who sacrificed happy times for times of war and battle. And those who may not have experienced full combat, but have still given of their life, leaving friends and families while facing the trauma of seeing war torn people groups.

My life is still relatively easy but appreciating my own ease and comfort is not enough. I will remember those who have paid a price with their lives and their time to pay for this luxury. In the same way, Jesus gave His life for my spiritual freedom (and I give Him praise daily), so now is the time to give honour and thanks to those men, women and even children who have gone before us and even today - they give, so we can live free.

Thank you to our Forces and our Veterans!
