The Gift of Christmas

The gifts all wrapped up and tucked under the tree are waiting… waiting for the celebration morning. They’re buried in boxes and bags and wrapping paper so no one can see them before the right moment.

God too, tucked away the best gift of all to mankind in the womb of the young virgin, Mary, many years ago. And the people of God had been waiting, wondering when the miraculous gift of the Messiah would come. They were expecting and anticipating all the pomp and circumstance of our modern day Christmases. They likely thought that God’s 500 year silence would come to an end with obvious rituals and decorum that would announce the awaited arrival to the Jewish people.

But most of the religious leaders missed His coming altogether. Instead, shepherds were heralded to the stable, the manger, the little town of Bethlehem that hid the arrival of our Immanuel – God with us. And this gift to man would prove to be our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace, just as Isaiah had prophesied. This gift is still waiting for many to receive it. The greatest gift of all time – Jesus!

So as we open gifts this Christmas, may we all remember that our heavenly Father has given us the best gift of all, and may we give Him praise, worship and adoration.

Merry Christmas to all.
